Karen Liew
Creative Director and Illustrator
Karen is a professional Illustrator (BVA Illustration, Queensland College of Art) and graphic designer. Karen has experienced the evolution of the design industry in the last twenty years – from traditional paste-up art/illustration, Apple Mac, multimedia, web/apps design and infographics to everything with an instant social presence. In 2006 Karen founded BLOK Design Associates (BDA) with her sidekick, graphic designer Tom Everingham. Their goal was to create mouth-watering designs for a wider audience. Unfortunately, BLOK suspended its operation in 2008 due to unforeseen circumstances. Karen has been working for the Queensland Government since 2004. She specialises in creating brands and graphics for government projects/campaigns. Examples of her significant projects include the creation of branding for Beef 2021, the coffee table book for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the development of brand identity and various digital campaigns for the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. Although Karen has been in the design industry for a while, she is still very in-tune with her design skills. She continues learning digital design and photography training, attending local design events, and travelling abroad for creative inspiration.
